Getting to the divine thru your nose..somehow literally :)

During my meditation last week, I choose to say (silently) the sentence "Who Am I" with every breath. Later during the meditation the following word came to me: ANF (See scanned image).
In arabic this means nose. I understood the message. In meditation it is important to pay attention to your breath. Good, the message then stresses simply on this principle, pay attention to your breath, this will reduce thoughts in the brain, which opens the gate to the divine. But after few minutes I had the feeling to flip the word backward. So Anf became Fna Or in Arabic it means to completely dissolve. In Sufism this is very common word used as the last and most ambition target of all. To dissolve in the divine. You loose your identity and become one with the divine.

Interesting.....I gotta work harder on my meditation techniques...I get distracted easily...certain thoughts just find their way into my brain! grrrrr...

very cool experience...keep sharing.

still awake Dareen.. I knew you will be the first to see this :) but not that fast :)
Anyways..thoughts will still come and go because if you can maintain the state of no thought, you will be in the level of the enlightened like Mohammad or Buddha... Not that it will not happen, it will and can happen to anyone, but it does take time.

Try also instead of focusing on the breath, just say to yourself, it s normal for thoughts to come, my job is just watch the breath, like I m not this body and mind, but a witness of what s happening. So you try to witness what s going on, and when a thoughts come try just to witness it like an outsider.

...another trick on your path to the divine..

Is it true that someone can be a Sufi without being a Muslim?

Is it like wearing the niqab without wearing the hijab?

I was reading an article somewhere about how sufism can have some downsides. It said that sometimes people can forget their prayes and fasting and just want the bliss of the sixth sense that sufusm gives them. They only like the feeling of the trance and leave out Islam.

Hi Sweetscent:)
yes, anyone can pratice what Sufism has to offer without being Muslim, there are Sufi Centers here in canada anyone can participate.

The purpose of all religions is to get to the divine while you are living on planet earth. The way doesn't really matter. There are coutless ways and Islam is just one way, from the east you have Buddhism, Taoism, Confuism and many others and from Middlea east you got Christianity and Jeudism , and Islam.
So yes, in a way, if you find the bliss you can miss your prayer without feeling guilty because you understand prayers are one way to get you to the bliss, so if you are already there what good is it going to do for you?

By the way, the current way of performing Muslim prayer, I believe, is out of Sync with what was intended. I believe the 5 prayers are intended as small meditations not sort of duty to perform. By just performing them as duty they don't do anything but giving you a false sense of security...

But keep open mind on whatever you read, even in Sufism, there are many that took it the wrong way. I find best you can read are the poems by Rumi, I put here some of his work once a while, there is a nice movie below check it out...

Well even though some people find the five daily prayers tedious or boring, in Islam they are a must and have to be done. It's wajib, and the first thing you will be asked about in the akhirah is if you have performed all of your prayers.I always seem to have up and downs and my Iman tends to fluctuate.Sometimes when I pray ib 7as bil ra7a and sometimes I dont feel anything at all.

I have been interested in sufism but I have heard and seen many different kind of rituals. And Im afraid that if I follow them I will be leaving Islam.

For example there is this certain group that does this dance and then they cut a chicken and put the blood all over their body.I would never do that but I was just curious to what are their beliefs and what their religion is.

Hi Sweetscent,
What I am offering you, is a little bit unorthodox thinking. A different understanding.
For the record I am a Muslim.
Having said that, I always looked for an experiential level of understanding not only knowledge. For that, I found many things and many doors have opened up.

There are many ways. And trust me, it doesn't matter if you are Muslim or Hinudus. What matter is, what are you learning, are you getting any experience? Or just theoretical knowledge? Are you willing to step out of the knowledge that you were raised on or not?

As for the cult of blood and all of that... it doesn't make any sense off course, so try to stay away from these. Truth has be peaceful, very peaceful, and that peace is reflected on us humans and other beings like animals, trees and anything else...

Hi Mone,

Well I just saw a documentry on television about the blood cult. But I will never even attempt to follow something like that.I like to read about different religions and cults so I can feel fortunate about my religion.

I was born Muslim but my parents were from two seperate religions and I was confused most part of my childhood and early adolesence.

I read and looked into many differnt religions and I found that Islam was the best.Because the main thing that I like most about Islam was tawheed. And no other religon seemed to have that.Islam also covers every aspect of life that you can think of and it makes alot of sense to me.

Sometimes I just lack a little bit of spirituality thats all.

The nice thing about Islam is the (Wodou), washing the hands and feet. This work clears your aura from any negative energy you accumulated during the day.
When you pray just to slow it down as much as you can, concentrate on the words and every move you make. And when you are done open your palms up and stay there watching your breath for few minutes. This act opens up your channels to receive divine energy.. Happy praying :)
